Comment on Using Squid with DDWRT by Michael

Very nice idea. One reason for this would be if you want to log all web access (which squid on a server can do better than DD-WRT because of the limited space on DD-WRT). I have just added the Webmin module SARG. It does an amazing job of analyzing squid access logs.

I have some questions:
1. What is a transparent proxy and why do I need it? I've been running SSH port forwarding to 3128 (no "transparent" in squid.conf). I can also just set my browser's network config to use 192.168.69.123 port 3128 and it works for everything, even https.

2. DD-WRT has something called HTTP forwarding. Why not just use this instead of the IPtables?

3. With either iptables or HTTP forwarding, is there anyway of getting DD-WRT to supply a username and password to Squid - if I have it passworded using ACL. No. Using nsca_auth ...?

3. Is there any danger in just copying someone's IPtables that they post on the internet? I am just learning them and there is much that I don't understand.
you are obviously use to Windows which is why you have this problem
...well I've been using Linux instantly for more than 10 years now, and I don't really think it's the Windows wont. Statistically far more people are right-handed, so it's more convenient to have everything on the right side. Personally, i think this is one of the worst decision they've ever made. Fortunatelly it's pretty easy to undone.
