Dean&#039;s comment worked for me. I was doing everything but I needed to be a member of the user group, also. Before that it was all visible but greyed out.</description>

Thanks for the help.  I tested this on a new install of ubuntu 9.04, and you definitely do not have to edit the /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh at all.
